WHO WE ARE
A School Built on Conviction
Not every family finds the right fit in the local school system, and not every home is positioned to homeschool. Faithful Roots Schoolhouse exists to offer something in between for students in Effingham County.
We are a one-room, Christ-centered micro-school (serving about 15 students) in Springfield, Georgia. Our approach is simple and focused: strong academics, a technology-free environment, life skills development, and close partnership with parents.
We believe childhood is a critical season of development (intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually) that should be protected. Here, students gain knowledge, and develop judgment, responsibility, and the practical skills needed for life. The best education is personal, purposeful, and grounded in something greater than test scores.

To disciple and educate children in Effingham County by building strong academic and faithful foundations. We partner with parents to raise students who love God, love learning, and serve others.

OUR MODEL
The One-Room Advantage
The one-room schoolhouse is not an old idea; it's a smart one. When a single teacher works with a small group of students across multiple grades, some remarkable things happen:
The teacher knows every child, every family, and every learning need
Older students build leadership and confidence by helping younger ones
Younger students are naturally challenged and inspired by older peers
The classroom becomes a genuine community, not just a room of same-age strangers
During the 2026–2027 school year, we will begin with a single kindergarten and first grade cohort, an intentional first step that allows us to refine our approach carefully. From there, we plan to thoughtfully expand to serve students in grades K–5, building on a strong foundation.
Our Campus
Faithful Roots Schoolhouse is an independently owned private micro-school located on a dedicated five-acre campus in Springfield, Georgia.
The schoolhouse is being thoughtfully created through the renovation of an existing home into a warm learning environment that complements the surrounding area.
Beyond the classroom, students benefit from opportunities for hands-on learning connected to The Onyx Manor’s broader campus, including outdoor spaces, ponds, farm animals, nature study, and practical life-skills experiences.
While Faithful Roots Schoolhouse operates independently, we are grateful to collaborate with local business owners like James and Liz Carlson who share a commitment to meaningful education and community.

Meet the Owners
High school sweethearts Dalton and Jessica Mitchell began considering school options in and around Springfield, GA for their oldest son. They knew they wanted a Christian education aligned with their Christian values. After all, a child spends much of their waking hours in school. It is where they learn how to think and what to value. It shapes who they are becoming, not just through lessons, but through repetition, influence, and time. The question was not whether he would be formed, but by what.
As they searched for the right fit, they realized they were not alone. Faithful Roots Schoolhouse grew from that realization and a simple conviction. Education should not compete with what a family believes. It should reinforce it.
Here, faith is not set aside for part of the day. Learning is shaped by a biblical worldview, preparing students not only for academic success, but for a life of clarity, responsibility, and purpose.
Because the hours matter. And how they are spent shapes who a child becomes.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
Our Foundational Beliefs
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who created the world and gives meaning and order to life. We believe the Bible is the authoritative word of God and serves as a trustworthy guide for how to live. We believe every person is made in God’s image with dignity and purpose, yet in need of restoration through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Because of this, we believe that faith is not merely intellectual, but lived. It shapes how we think, work, create, serve, and treat others. We believe parents play the central role in raising and guiding their children, and we come alongside them in that work. We believe education should form the whole person, helping students grow into wise, capable, and grounded people.
LEGAL STANDING
A Fully Compliant Georgia Private School
Faithful Roots Schoolhouse operates as a legally recognized private school under Georgia state law (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-690). Georgia does not require private schools to be accredited, registered, or licensed, and we meet every requirement the state does set.
We provide a minimum of 180 days of instruction per year. Each school day meets the state's minimum of 4.5 hours of instruction. Our curriculum covers all required subject areas: reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. We report our enrollment to the local school superintendent at the start of each school year and notify them monthly of any changes, so your child's attendance is always properly on record. Our facility meets all applicable health and safety standards under state and local law.
A NOTE ON ACCREDITATION
Georgia does not require private schools to hold accreditation, and Faithful Roots is not currently accredited by a state-recognized agency. We want to be upfront about that.
For most families, this has no practical impact on their child's education, records, or future schooling. If accreditation is a specific concern for your family (for scholarships, transfers, or college preparation down the road) please reach out. We will have an honest conversation about what that means for your child's situation and help you think it through.
